Rozanne Hawksley

Pale Armistice 1991

My mum recently pointed out to me, the work of Rozanne Hawksley, an artist predominantly employing textile based mediums. The article was in a back issue of Selvedge magazine, regarding a touring show of the artist’s works in 2009.

Hawksley regards the inclusion of ‘found object’ in art pieces as an act of rescuing, she collects and stores discarded objects, then deploys them in her pieces. Furthermore, the artist’s approach to referencing the literary works that have influenced her art work, is similar to my own. I love her very feminine use of embroidery, coupled with found object and these old silk gloves, the artist makes broader issues more personal by allowing the layered meanings of the objects to speak for themselves.
